Some medium-sized firms lead the recent reindustrialization of the industrial district of Sassuolo (Italy) and show great shifts in their spatial strategies. They invest in reorganization and requalification operations, which however remain individual and detached from local territorial system. To sustain a more effective contribution of these companies in terms of territorial requalification, urban planning policies have to address and coordinate their interventions. They have to define a coherent, shared, and collective vision, to be implemented through supra-local procedures. This way, the territory can effectively become a key factor for firms’ competitiveness and, at the same time, increase the quality of life for workers and inhabitants
Keywords: Industrial district; medium-sized firms; spaces of production
