The irritable bowel syndrome, a not disabling pathology, but certainly troublesome and having influences on the quality of life, is very widespread. It’s a disease many times refractory to several medical therapies, but sensitive, as all the psychosomatic diseases, to psycotherapy and especially hypnotherapy. After a short journey in bowel physiology and physiopatology, the Author intends to search, in the literature from 1984 up today, for some confirmations based on evidence in controlled studies and not which can provide a help and a direction to follow for those who are interested in this subject.
