Armando bauleo’s contribution to the concept of group. - The "operative group" (described by the Argentinean psychoanalyst Enrique Pichon-Rivière) is seen as the methodological instrument of psychoanalytic social psychology. It is characterized by the task that group members have decided to pursue, and it is an instance between individual and society. This model allows for the overcoming of the dichotomy between emotion and cognition (a dichotomy that in modern industrial society is seen as the distance between the worker and the product of his work). This dichotomy derives from ideology, and such method allows group members to free themselves of their passivity. The hypothesis made by Armando J. Bauleo (1932-2008) was that group structure is an ideological construction par excellence, and with it the constitutive mechanisms of ideology may come to the surface. In order to do so, it is necessary to focus on the relationship between the group and its task and on the link between the group leader and this relationship.
