The team as a contest metaphor - In this article we consider what processes make a working team a "good" working team. We deliberately keep our distance from any defensive idealizations about the excellence of the team, underlining the numerous ambivalent aspects that characterize any respectable group, whose strength is hardly ever based on equalities but, in most cases, on differences. It is common knowledge that the art of staying together in a group is based on ancient beliefs according to which it is better to move forward than to draw back, just like in a battle or a race. Often, this martial approach satisfies only our narcissistic expectations, but it does not always make the team win. Refusing to persevere in pursuing the same language, cohesion, and uniformity encourages the contest metaphor, which, as we know, requires strict discipline, as well as a certain dose of competition, awareness of one’s own limitations, respect and knowledge of one’s opponents.
Keywords: Multi-professional team, negotiation, cohesion, competition, ambivalence, team.
