This article examines work-life balance policies in the Region Emilia-Romagna, referring to a particular theoretical approach, that of the total social organi- zation of work, that deepens the relationship between the spheres of production and of social reproduction, of paid and unpaid work. In the regional model considered, although public policies addressed to equal opportunities between men and women are quite developed, cultural frames that consider care activities and unpaid work as a female issue are yet still persistent. Women are much more engaged then men in unpaid work, in non-standard contracts and in part-time work. For this reason, we need a new conciliation model, not gendered, and a redefinition of the boundaries between public and private spheres, of paid and unpaid work.
