The attitude of mindfulness, which recently has received increasing attention in Italy, should be "translated" into Western languages with circumspection, in order to avoid misunderstanding its essence and aims. In particular, the term should not be construed as "Oriental", but rather as an universal way of being and entering into relations. Mindfulness, in fact, has been described and practiced in a number of very different cultures and traditions. Therefore it becomes necessary to carefully define the conceptual limits of the term "mindfulness", as well as its application in clinical work and educational contexts.
