The aim of this paper is to compare the ongoing training systems in France and in Italy through two case studies. The author has carried out some interviews to Human Resources and/or Training Division managers and to the workers of two big financial enterprises in order to verify the effects of the introduction in 2004 of two new juridical provisions: the individual right to training (Dif) in France and the inter-professional funds for continuing training in Italy. The development of laws implies a new idea of continuing training which incites worker to play a new, active and autonomous role: in this way training becomes an individual right, not only a decision of the employer but a choice for the employee as well. For this reason it’s necessary to understand if the new juridical provisions can both make possible a real activation and give responsibility to the workers.
