This article is the transcription of a live session by Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb and the comment by the neuroscientist Vittorio Gallese. The event occured in a conference on Gestalt therapy and neuroscience organized by the Istituto di Gestalt HCC Italy. This is a very new dialogue on issues related to both disciplines: the therapist’s active part in the therapeutic experience, her embodied empathy, is the possiblity for the patient to become aware of her body feelings and intentionality for contact. The neuroscientist makes bridges between the phenomenological and aesthetic perspective of Gestalt therapy --the being aware of rhythm of the heart beating. These bridges result from the recent studies on the role of autonomous and central brain systems, and from studies on the rubber hand, which outline how a person can feel her/himself inside (enteroception), the better/he can feel a more solid self-boundary of her/his body .
Keywords: Enteroception, embodied empathy, rubber-hand phenomenon, intentionality, Gestalt therapy, neuroscience.
