This report by the leader of the "Le Vele" Foundation of Pavia lists the activities conducted during the research with the Sicilian employment offices. One relevant area concerns the training of the region’s civil servants, for the purpose of reducing or eliminating cultural and language barriers with the immigrants. On the other hand, communications between the offices and immigrants have to consider the diffidence of many immigrants, who have little or no confidence in the structures of the state. The web-based employment system - with its special terminal, called "Totem" - must make due allowance for this attitude, otherwise what the office supplies will never match what the immigrants’ needs.
