The contribution of Wikipedia to the knowledge of the history of Italy during World War II should not be underestimated or, worse, ignored. Such outlook is recommended by a reflection on the big conflicts of the Twentieth Century (and, in general, of contemporary history) not strictly limited to the works of professional historians, but extended to all of what is commonly called "the public use of history". The open source encyclopedia, through the Internet, plays an important role in this field by producing and diffusing the knowledge of the past at mass level. After an introduction concerning the presence of the War in the Web, the A. offers an examination and a statistical survey of Wikipedia entries for the category "Italy in World War II". The paper is completed with an appendix including the "category tree" and a systematic index of encyclopedia entries.
