The aging process is characterized by a series of physiological changes and the consequences of these can be both neurological and psychological. The deterioration of memory is commonly associated with the production of false memories, confabulations and delusions. However, if delusions seem to be already well defined and circumscribed in the literature, confabulations are still a complex and difficult phenomenon to define. In this article we focus on recent studies about confabulations, delusions and the diseases that, in old age, may determine these disorders.
Keywords: Confabulation, delusion, old age, Alzheimer’s disease, Frontal temporal dementia.
