The ego is not the subject. Freud shows the existence of a subject that does not coincide with the ego-consciousness. Lacan introduces the mirror stage highlighting the alienation of the ego towards the subject. The child perceives in the image of the similar, or in his image in the mirror, a form that anticipates a bodily unity which is the matrix of the ego. The ego is a set of multiple identifications. According to the Kleinian orientation, the narcissistic object relation is based on splitting, projection and projective identification. According to Lacan, the Symbolic (the language) allows to come out from the destructiveness of narcissism and to recognize the unconscious desire of the subject.
