Since the last decade the Italian framework for education and learning has undergone considerable changes which have designed its new frame. The present analysis is part of the political economy of education debates and it examines the main performances obtained by Italian system depending on both European comparisons and the most recent reports published by national and international statistic bodies. As we know, the Europe 2020 strategy for education - assumed by Europe at the beginning of the last decade - is aimed to a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and it has learning and education as its drivers. The framework outlined by analysing the data still seems far from the European objectives and it is now affected negatively by the present crisis.
