Within the framework of the research project Austerity and Growth: Concepts for Europe, in the start-up phase a review of the international literature has carried out, focusing on the major positions taken regarding the possibility to reconcile fiscal austerity policies with policies aimed at production development of the various national economic systems, including the Italian one. The paper presents the first results of the work completed so far, involving, on one hand, the prospects that are currently possible for our country on both aspects and, on the other hand, a set of economic policy measures at both European and national level, herein proposed in order to achieve the two macro-economic goals, only apparently incompatible with each other.
