The aim of this study is to investigate psychological and social aspects, and psychopathological risk factors linked to maternity plan, to procreation and child care among immigrate women living in Pavia and its county. 55 immigrate women, between the 28th and the 32nd pregnancy week, have been assessed by means of a semi-structured interview adapted to migrant population from the original IRMAG ("Interview for Maternal Representations during Pregnancy", Ammaniti, 1995). The aim was to explore mental representations linked to feminine identity and maternity, and to deepen emotional aspects and experiences concerning being pregnant in a stranger country. Despite the individual differences due to life and migratory histories, the study showed similar feelings of loneliness, discomfort and fragility, amplified by migratory experience. This vulnerability appears to be linked to the onset of depressive symptoms, which can negatively influence the quality of the relationship with the baby.
Keywords: Maternity, migration, vulnerability, threshold.
