The essay reconstructs the story of the village of Nor Arax, built up in 1926 on the outskirts of Bari, thanks to the initiative Umberto Zanotti Bianco, for the reception of the first Armenian refugees, that reached Apulia between 1922 and 1924. Zanotti Bianco dealt with the Armenian problem in parallel with the other oppressed nationalities and the Italian Southern question. Zanotti Bianco was also involved in creating job opportunities, and promoting social integration of the Armenian refugees. Bearing in mind the debate about internal colonization of southern Italy, Zanotti Bianco focused on the importance of collective/shared life and facilities as opposed to nationalism and genocide, thus lying the foundation for a Mediterranean policy based on dialogue and civil emancipation
