Thinking by traces. The theme of the traces has a central role in Ernst Bloch’s philosophy of hope as it represents one of the many figures of what is on the way and unites in itself the theme of the journey in an unknown land and the discovery of the pre-apparitions of what has never been. In its verbal form "to go by traces, to grope", indicates a perceptive capacity in which all five senses are activated, a sort of synergy between the body and the mind, between sensation, observation, imagination, reasoning, which allows to go beyond mere sensitive data, to "see" and "hear" more and therefore also to "see" and "feel". The "traces" are ultimately the reality that is given to thought in the form of waste, fragment, minute, scattered and ambiguous events, but with high existential and utopian intensity, because caught in its palpitating and undecided moment, suspended between past and future, between no-more and not-yet

Keywords: Going by traces, pre-seeing, pre-feeling, storyteller thinking, fragment, incom-pleteness, disorientation, utopian reality
