Freedom of speech in cyberspace is threatened not only by State interference, but also and above all by the private powers represented by tech companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Google. Over time, they have built an oligopolistic system of private governance of the contents that pass through their platforms. Rather than legitimizing the rise of the new digital sovereigns as the absolute masters of online communications, it is a political responsibility to guide technological change, giving it a sense that keeps it within the tracks laid down by constitutional principles.
