Wanted by the cement industrialist Carlo Pesenti as an electoral newspaper to contrast the left in the elections of 1953, «La Notte» became a protagonist of the journalism of Milan from the fifties to seventies. Characterized by a dynamic style, «La Notte» was an information newspa-per, reporting events and news of all kinds, from national politics to the economic, social and even nightlife of the city. It was the first Italian tabloid. Its editor Nino Nutrizio, a right-wing journalist, lined up the newspaper with the Silent majority and the anti-communist "order block" of the 1970s. When he realized that neo-fascist extremism was monopolizing the mod-erate reaction, Nutrizio moved away from the Italian social movement, siding with the institu-tions. The advent of commercial televisions declined the success. The editor resigned in 1979, in the most acute phase of terrorism, and the newspaper survived until 1994, at the dawn of a new era for Milan and Italy.
