Misterbianco, casale (village) of Catania on the southern side of Etna, in the mid-1600s was at the center of financial transactions that led to its purchase and feudalization, until the re-foundation following the destruction caused by the eruption of 1669. The analysis of 1682 fiscal surveys ("riveli") outlined the socio-economic composition of the newly built Misterbianco.
