The Multifactorial origin of learning disorders: a psychoterapeutic family management This article illustrates the effi cacy of the systemic family-individual therapy in the treatment of families who live complex relational dynamics, that could be overshadowed by Learning Disorder and by the impact on the school. In our practice, we follow these families adapting the model proposed by the Mara Selvini Palazzoli Psychotherapy School. After explaining the characteristics of each Specific Learning Disorder, we shall present Simonetta’s Multifactorial Theory at the origin of Specifi c Learning Disorder (SLD), which we will apply as the theoretical framework. This model is based on neuroscientifi c study, attachment theory and the study of psychotraumatology, which allows us to understand the etiopathogenesis of symptoms and analyze the different levels of complexity. In our intervention methods, we focus our attention on the impact that the symptom has in a particular relational context. For this reason, when a Learning Disorder is present, we believe that it is highly important to understand the attachment and the personality development of family members. We help the family to read their relational dynamics in a systemic and trigeneration prospective, whilst observing the possible presence of unresolved trauma in the developmental history of family members. In addition, we underline the importance of an appropriate management style including the use of verbal and non verbal techniques and meetings where different family members are invited to the sessions. We present our work method through the description of psychotherapeutic family management.
