The history of disabled people may be read as a succession of denied normalities and struggles for the recognition of rights and the change of social contexts. The responsibility for such changes cannot be imagined as the exclusive prerogative of disabled people, but belongs to all, especially those who live outside the family context. In these contexts, concrete opportunities for life and growth take shape. This paper proposes to deepen these responsibilities by referring to three ideal stages, examining the links between Italian school and disability, the role and responsibilities of contexts in the growth of young adults with disabilities and the responsibilities of a research oriented to social change.
