The article presents the results of a study focused on reconstructing the exchange practices and the social hierarchies that could be detected in the food market of Rovereto between the 18th and early 19th centuries. Through an integrated analysis of various archival sources (iconographic representations, fiscal and administrative docu-ments), the research seeks to deepen the understanding of the historical, social, and commercial dynamics related to the market area, initially located in Piazza San Marco and later moved to Piazza delle Erbe. The management system of the market, coordinated by the local administration, was one of its key elements of strength, enabling the attraction of external investments and the generation of internal profits. The analysis of events and developments related to the market of Rovereto provides a unique perspective for studying the relationships between the town’s socio-economic and political powers, which allows for a deeper understanding of the relationship between private interests and public spaces.
