Una crisi del giornalismo politico? Un paragone fra l’Italia e la Francia dagli anni '80

This article presents the main results of a PhD thesis on the transformations of political journalism in France and Italy since the 80s. My case study on political journalism and its possible crisis since the last 20 years puts into question the hypothesis of convergence or homogenisation of the European and North- American media systems. Firstly, I present the theoretical and methodological frame of international comparison which permits to test the possible convergence of media systems. Secondly, I propose a synthesis of the results of my field research on the recent evolutions of the place of the political section in the newsrooms of the French and Italian national daily newspapers. This research highlights contrasting results between the two countries. In Italy, the political journalism remains a prestigious section, while, in France, the decline of political journalism in the professional hierarchies has occurred at many levels (exposure in the newspapers’ pages, decisional power, etc.). This analysis, which sheds light on divergences between the two countries, although they belong to the same Mediterranean ideal-type of media system, contrasts with the hypothesis of convergence. Finally, the notion of hybridisation seems to be more appropriate to describe the recent transformations of journalism in Italy.;
