The study analyses the issue of emotional resonance and consequent behaviour of the Police Force when interviewing suspected victims of abuse. It reports some significant observations rising from the administration of two measures (an interview and a questionnaire) of 9 ‘privileged witnesses’ who represent various departments of the Police Force in the cities of Palermo and Trapani and who obtain the first account from the child. The research highlights the necessity for the Police to be trained to achieve effective practice when detaining and interviewing a minor, whilst at the same time demonstrating willingness in protecting both the victim and themselves.
