The onset of the so-called Prohibition is conventionally dated back to 1914, following the approval of the Harrison Act in the United States. After more than a century, Prohibition presents itself as an extraordinarily consolidated ethical and normative model, despite its uncountable failures in countering consumption, production, and trafficking of illegal substances. With this y contribution the author argues that the reasons that gave rise to Prohibition do not match with its real aims, and its apparent inefficacy is precisely the basis of its worldwide diffusion and social acceptance.
