Changes in work are increasingly characterized by the presence of digital technologies. Old and new are co-present and the text intends to explore some of the dynamics that characterize the transition phase. In particular, the arguments are divided into three parts. Initially the relevant characteristics of the digitalization background scenario and a possible definition of digital technologies are identified. Subsequently the main technological components of the digital work world and some key words are presented. The third part of the text reviews a series of analytical dimensions and research questions, which can guide the analysis and interpretation of the transition to digital work. Adopting a nondeterministic interpretative key, and thinking also of the role of trade union action, the text pays attention to organizational planning aimed at producing quality of working life, considering digital technologies as an organizational variable.
