This volume is an overview of the present situation of the phenomenon of recreational consumption of drugs and alcohol in three different European countries: Scotland, Italy and Denmark.
The analysis shown are part of the research activities of the project "Prevention of poly-drugs addiction and reduction of drug-related harms programs for young people in recreational settings" financed by the specific programme "Drug prevention and information 2007-2013" - European Commission: Directorate general justice, freedom and security. The project as a whole and the data reported in this vol-ume aim to give rise to and pull for an appropriate and robust awareness of the problem of recreational consumption and poly-consumption among young people in Europe, in order to support new policies and intervention strategies in facing this increasing phenomenon.

Marco Riglietta, MD, clinical pharmacology, director of an addictive behaviour centre in Bergamo. He is an expert in diagnosis and treatment of addictive behaviours and in the management of clinical services in the same fields. He has been project manager in different research projects on drugs and alcohol epidemiology, treatment and prevention.
Giovanni Viganò, Deputy Managing Director of Synergia. He is expert in the field of evaluation of public social and health policies. He is responsible of the scientific coordination of international and multidisciplinary working teams of several European projects on the topic of social and health programmes and interventions delivered by public institutions.
