Supporting each other. For a dialogical agreement between scientific community and society - Today we are facing a change in the democracy structure which is related to the emphasis on participation in science. In such context, referring to science shops is one of the alternatives to fill the gap between local policy makers and civil society. They are not only shops in the traditional sense of the word, but also organisations which work as mediators between citizen groups and independent research institutions. They are small entities that carry out community-based research to respond to civil society’s needs for expertise and knowledge. As a consequence, they represent an intermediating agency which could support policy makers to democratize the social and environmental decision making process.
