The author goes through his life story trying to identify touchstone events which led him to develop an episode of major depression in adulthood. He looks for the words to name pain, loneliness and disarray, typical emotional states of a depressed person. He then tries to outline ways to cope with the illness - which are respectful of the patient, the doctor and the disorder itself - looking to achieve recovery. Courage and trust play a key role in this process, nonetheless it is the combination of many components (i.e. the network) to allow healing instead of the loss of one’s soul.

Keywords: Depression, soul, healing, loneliness
