Starting from the hypothesis that singularity should be analysed distinguishing it from originality, difference, exemplarity and referring it to the existential situation, a critique of those three conceptual categories is developed. Reasons and consequences for the politics and the understanding of the dynamics of contemporary society are then stessed.
