Right from the start of Viktor Orbán’s second mandate in 2010, urban-planning and architecture in Budapest were subject to the attentions of political power. In a series of acts clearly related to Orbán’s historical interpretation of the People’s Republic and others legacies of Communism, the urban landscape was systematically renewed and restyled. At the centre of this process is the relocation of Imre Nagy’s statue, the most recent of many attempts to rewrite the events of October 1956 in Hungary.
