The thematic contribution, which has been called "Fonti e Metodi" since 1998, is once again being included in this number of the journal. Since 1977, in fact, a permanent section has been presented in the journal, using different titles and studying different subjects, but there have always been two permanent goals in mind: 1. to improve the knowledge of urban history, and 2. to systematize the approaches, materials, and documents that can develop it. At the start, this section was called by different names, depending on the various interests and approaches of the authors each time. In some terms, the section’s contents could be seen as an important point of view to draw a hypothetical history of the topic interest on documents, sources and methods that characterize studies and research on urban history subjects of the 1970s. These editorial experiences now see a new section for two reasons: first, because we are trying to reintroduce this section in the usual articulation of volumes, and second, because we have decided to define a permanent scheme based on five key points: 1. Charters and Sources; 2. Types and Amount of Documents; 3. Goals and the Context of Research; 4. Methods; 5. Interesting and Unedited Materials Drawn from Research.
