The author of this essay explains the influence exerted by Renato Treves on the development of Legal Sociology in Peru, paying special attention to the methodological guidelines described in Introduzione alla sociologia del diritto of 1977 that became widespread in Latin America thanks to the Spanish translation of 1978. The essay concludes by stressing that empirical research is an important and topical aspect of Sociology of Law at present time.
