The French scientist Marin Cureau de la Chambre, personal physician to Louis XIV, wrote one of the few treatises on courage of his time in the mid 17th century. Courage is presented as a force that fights against evil with ethical impetus and physical energy. The analysis of its bodily expressions in analogy with the animal world is one of the most detailed, scenographic and original one can read.
