Il cavaliere in difficoltà. Nuovi sviluppi nella teoria e nella tecnica clinica ABSTRACT: The author notices how we never got a full articulation of an usable psychoanalytic technique founded upon the principles of an Ego psychology. AlI those who posed themselves, in tha past, as defensors of the structural model, have never focused enough the role of the Ego in the interpretive processo In fact, in our work we are stilI relying upon the Freudian topographic model, which is now completely. discredited on a clinical basis, and upon Freud's first theory of anxiety. According to the author's clinical experience, we should recover the Freudian concept of an Ego and try to integrate it into an usable clinical technique, based upon the difficulty for the Ego to relate itself with Id, Super-ego and external reality. This would be a fundamental step to allow our patients really acknowledging their own minds, which is the sine qua non of the psychoanalytic treatment. Some clinical examples are offered in order to clarify the technical adjustments suggested by the author.
