In these articles the authors discuss the recent book edited by M. Isnenghi and E. Cecchinato, entitled Fare l’Italia (Making Italy). In the first contribution Albergoni provides an overview of the text, together with a comparison with the volume of the Annali Einaudi recently published by Banti and Ginsborg. In the second one, Fruci focuses instead on the issue of voluntary army service and its wide dissemination in the basis of "garibaldine" premises. Finally Arianna Arisi Rota chooses the theme of martyrdom and heroism as the main thread of her review article.
