The article deals with the impact of the recent economic crisis on the Italian female labour market participation and employment. Starting from the concrete female behaviours in respect to the labour market, the authors identify five socio-economic female profiles, and analyse their distribution and composition within the North and the South of the country. The impact of the crisis on the different profiles is then observed, stressing the negative impact on the most qualified segment of these profiles. The analysis also highlights strong differences in the profiles’ features in the two macro areas of the country.
