The authors describe a technique to be used in the process of treatment with couples. The instrument Mobile Genogram for Couples (MGC), comes from an idea of one of the authors and from his clinical experience working with couples, both in public services as well as in private practice. The MGC is inspired by the classic genogram and aims to investigate how families of origin influence the relational dynamics of the couple. The authors describe accurately the instrument and provides guidelines for its application, together with a clinical exemplification of the use of the instrument. MGC consists of a wooden table and is complemented by the use of small figures representing the family members of the narrator. The real innovation introduced by the MGC is as defined by authors "the fourth dimension", literally the chance to "put hands into" the story of family relationships, introducing a manual and progressive level to the narrative one, already present in the classic genogram.
