The female image of the mother in the Marian cult is defined by a group of men who are obliged by the rules of the clergy to be celibate. In relation to women, they can only ever be sons, never fathers, nor husbands. The different forms of the representation of Mary correspond to the critical moments in the mother-son relationship. In this paper the author deals with the Annunciation and the Death of the Virgin.
