Raimondo Maria Pavarin in his comment on Boys, Marsden e Strang analyses the metholodology and the results of the research making a comparison with similar Italian studies. He focalises his attentions on the reasons underling drug consumption. As a matter of fact, drug consumption is related to many functions: to alter normal states of mind; to expand personal consciousness; to make experience of unusual sensations; to improve the relationships with the others; to reach a more satisfing self-conception; to symbolize a passage to a new stage of life. Moreover, drugs can also be taken in order to feel part of a community, to face uncomfortable situations or as a challenge in itself.
