The author analyzes the influence of psychoanalysis-radical on Gestalt therapy and shows how Gestalt therapy actually develops certain ideas of that approach and integrates them in its own theoretical asset. He claims that this influence has often been underestimated by Gestalt therapists, although the founders were psychoanalysts. The author, who has met with some of the most relevant radical psychoanalysts of his time, reviews some main concepts of gestalt therapy under the light of that main influence: contact-withdrawal theory, theory of Self, figure/ground dynamics.

Keywords: Psychoanalysis-radical, Self/social unity, experience of satisfaction, experience of pain, Freud, Fenichel.
