Responsibility is not an absolute concept. Etymologically, it implies a relationship, because it means answering (or better responding) to a subject who calls out to you. Consequently, responsibility is always linked to its opposite, irresponsibility. If I respond to a voice, I cannot respond to others calling voices. In this respect, the notionof responsibility bears an analogy with concepts like obedience, which comes from the same Latin root "ob-audire", that is, "to listen". With particular reference to contemporary thinkers such as Heidegger, Ricoeur and Derrida, the paper stresses the difficulty of the very concept of responsibility, a borderline notion between ethics and faith.
Keywords: Derrida, Ethics, Heidegger, Obedience, Responsibility, Ricoeur.
