Online teaching requires a know-how that goes beyond the teacher’s specific disciplinary competences and may be summed up in the concept of e-teaching. It requires ad hoc interactive space, and a more pronounced attention to the organization of knowledge, based on the systematic use of metadata describing individual data or collections of data including multiple content items and hierarchical levels. Another peculiarity is its flexibility and adaptability to different learning styles. The use of digital texts stresses the importance of the pragmatic and holistic dimensions of language, and marks the difference from the "building blocks theory".
