The European guidelines for prevention and treatment of substance abuse disorders stress the importance of scientific, evidence based methodologies of intervention. Several strategies proposed by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA-ODET) provide valuable information for implementation and evaluation of prevention projects on substance abuse. Since 2006 several selective prevention projects have been implemented in the local community of the Health Local Unit (ULSS) n. 8, Asolo, Veneto Region, Italy. A working group of psychological and social operators from the Drug Abuse Unit and other social agencies was created to cooperate and coordinate prevention projects. Moreover, a fundamental goal of the working group was to compare theoretical assumptions and methodology that different actors had used for the different projects. Special attention was focused on design methodology of projects, by comparing it with the PERK (Prevention and evaluation resources Kit) proposed by EMCDDAODET. A useful discussion on evaluation and measurement tools was encouraged to improve prevention projects’ quality.
