The interesting paper by Manlio Iofrida starts by presenting a review of the role played by infant research to disintegrate the old distinction between subject and object, substituting the old solipsism with a notion of subjectivity grounded on relationality. Such notion is discussed by Iofrida against the background of some philosophical antecedents. Iofrida then addresses the criticisms such relational model of the subject has stirred. In particular, he proposes the necessity to formulate a new notion of freedom, related to the new systemic notion of subjectivity. In the present commentary I will focus on some recent contributions of cognitive neuroscience that I consider being consonant with several elements of the new model of subjectivity discussed by Iofrida.
