Women have been always involved in recent migration flows, mainly indirectly. However the restart of migration flows shows some interesting elements regarding flows in general and the migratory behavior of women in particular. On the basis of a research focused on a group of women moving from Campania we find that recent internal mobility directs towards traditional industrial cities of the italian North-west as well as new destinations in the North-east central regions. Young women are involved, with higher educational profile and several years of experience in precarious employment in the place of origin. Unlike the past, they are more conscious about this experience; they are often single and their decision of leaving does not necessarily concern with the economic needs of their families. In this regard, a new and interesting aspect to stress concerns the new economic role of the family of origin. Families far from being financially supported by the remittances of their migrant daughters, usually are themselves the economic base that allows daughters to take up and pursue their migration experience.
