The gift is a product of the superfluous and the consumer’s culture society has the purpose to remove the superfluous. The psychoanalytic work, not unlike the work of capitalism, has always been to do with the surplus, with something that is, that replaced, the original lack of lack (anxiety) with an excess of fantasy production (consumer’s culture). It's conceivable, from Lacan to Levinas, that the psychoanalytic session has to do with the other face recognition, and is inscribed in its essence, in a practice of welcome and hospitality of the other.
