The Free Town of Christiania, node in the European geography of activism and anarchy, is an autonomous community of about 1,000 inhabitants in the centre of Copenhagen. In this paper, Christiania is analysed from the perspective of the creative city: The proposed thesis is that its creative potential is connected to the specificities of the local social framework, and particularly to the limitation of many market logics that, traditionally, are supposed to encourage innovation and creativity.
Keywords: Creative city, alternative spaces, alternative economy, autonomy, resistance, Christiania
