The author describes the conditions and reasons that caused the type and number of victims and damage after the earthquake that hit L’Aquila in 2009. The consequences were relatively limited but the event had been announced by many signs of danger for months, which gave rise to a peculiar emotional stress in the survivors. Months after the earthquake, the inhabitants were still sharing the sense of having been abandoned to their fate, and also the phantasy that the "real catastrophe" had not yet come. The psychological consequences are described, as well as how intervention was carried out in the first "emergency" phase and in the second phase of building and psychosocial "reconstruction".
Keywords: Earthquake, emergency intervention, intervention of psychosocial reconstruction, cumulative trauma, sense of impotence, psychological response
